  • Stephen Curry is the betting favorite to repeat as Clutch Player of the Year.

The NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year award has only been around for two years, but this race has been straightforward in those two seasons.

Voters have given this award to the player with the most total points in the clutch in each season.

Last year, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry led the league with 198 points in the clutch to win this award over DeMar DeRozan, who finished with 182 points. No other player scored more than 139 points in the clutch a season ago.

In 2022-23, De’Aaron Fox was the first Clutch Player of the Year. He finished with 194 points in the clutch, besting DeRozan with 159 points.

Here’s a look at the latest NBA odds and who might be the best bet to win this year’s award:

NBA Clutch Player of the Year Favorite

Stephen Curry (+1100)

Curry was the obvious choice to open as the favorite in this market. Not only did he win the award last year, but Curry flashed his clutch scoring on the biggest stage while leading Team USA to a gold medal.

In addition, the Warriors lost Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks in free agency. This means Curry will be asked to carry even more of the offensive burden for the Warriors.

However, I see no reason to bet the favorite in an unpredictable market. I’d rather invest in the Warriors’ playoff odds and wait to see if there is a better in-season number on Curry in this market.

NBA Clutch Player of the Year Sleeper

Nikola Jokić (+3500)

This is the only market where one can argue a three-time MVP is a sleeper.

Betting on Nikola Jokić to win Clutch Player of the Year is my favorite way to have action on the best player in the world. Being in the MVP race has hurt Jokić’s chances of contending for this award, as evidenced by his fourth-place finish last year.

Jokić ranked fourth in the league with 129 total points in the clutch, but his 121.7 minutes was the fewest among all top four vote-getters. If the Nuggets take a step back in a loaded West, there is a chance they have more close games.

If that’s the case, I’ll happily invest in Jokić’s 35/1 odds to deliver for Denver.

NBA Clutch Player of the Year Prediction

Trae Young (+2000)

This award is impossible to predict in the offseason, especially with only two years of data.

I believe the formula is to bet on a player with high usage in the fourth quarter on a team that isn’t a juggernaut. Look no further than DeRozan finishing as a finalist in both seasons on a play-in team.

That’s the path for guard Trae Young, who is now all by himself with the Atlanta Hawks after they traded away Dejounte Murray. Even with Murray in the mix, Young tied for fifth in total points scored during the clutch in 2022-23.

Atlanta is counting on Young to carry this team to a bounce-back season. This award might be the best way to bet on just that.
