  • Knicks PG Jalen Brunson won Clutch Player of the Year in 2024-25.

New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson was named the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year for the 2024-25 campaign, becoming the first Eastern Conference player to win the award in the three-year history of this accolade.

Brunson averaged an NBA-best 5.6 points in clutch situations, which are defined as possessions in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime when the score is within five points.

He finished second in total points (156) scored in the clutch, marking the first time a player won this award without leading that metric.

Who Will Win NBA Clutch Player of the Year in 2026?

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander closed as the betting favorite for the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year award in 2026. At -5000, Gilgeous-Alexander has an implied probability of 98.04%.

Gilgeous-Alexander returned to the top of the board following his clutch performance in a win over the Denver Nuggets on March 9. He hit a step-back 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds remaining to earn one of the biggest wins of the season.

SGA passed Anthony Edwards, who had been the favorite since late January when he originally jumped ahead of Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham and Gilgeous-Alexander. Cunningham spent several weeks as the sole favorite after passing SGA, who raced out to a quick lead in the early stages of the regular season.

Although there has been plenty of movement at the top, these three players have split time as the favorite in this market throughout the year.

Edwards began as the front-runner after leading all players with 157 total points scored in the clutch last year. He became the first player to lead the league in this metric without winning the Clutch Player of the Year award.

De’Aaron Fox won the first Clutch Player of the Year award after posting an NBA-best 194 points in the clutch, while Stephen Curry claimed the honor in 2023-24 after pacing the league with 198 points in the clutch.

A significant reason Brunson won the award over Edwards was the disparity in the volume of their work. Brunson only needed 28 games to score 156 points, while Edwards played in 42 contests that featured clutch minutes.

Still, I’d suggest monitoring the leaderboard throughout the season to find value in the Clutch Player of the Year market. Edwards was trading as long as 55/1 in the final weeks before finishing as a finalist in last year’s race.

Tyrese Maxey was my preferred value play in this market all year, but his injury spoiled that idea. SGA will win this award.

Prediction: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
