New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson begins as the betting favorite to win the Clutch Player of the Year award during the 2026-27 season. Brunson’s NBA betting value of +700 suggests an implied probability of 12.5%.

Brunson won this award in 2024-25 before finishing fifth in voting last year. Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the reigning Clutch Player of the Year.

Who Will Win NBA Clutch Player of the Year in 2027?

The last two Clutch Player of the Year winners have started with the best odds of winning the award in 2027. Brunson is the betting favorite, but Gilgeous-Alexander is not far behind following his award-winning campaign last year.

Gilgeous-Alexander led the NBA with 175 total clutch points, finishing nine ahead of the next closest player — all while logging just 125.1 clutch minutes. That efficiency stands out even more considering the Thunder didn’t play many close games as the league’s top team.

The race essentially felt decided by March 9, when Gilgeous-Alexander drilled a step-back three with 3.3 seconds left to beat the Denver Nuggets. From that point forward, he remained the clear favorite, eventually closing at -5000 odds at BetMGM.

That shot also marked a turning point in the odds market. Gilgeous-Alexander overtook Anthony Edwards, who had held the top spot since late January after passing both Cade Cunningham and SGA. Cunningham spent multiple weeks as the favorite after jumping ahead of SGA, who had surged early in the season.

All three guards finished among the top four in voting, alongside Jamal Murray, who ended as the runner-up despite never reaching favorite status. Murray also ranked second in total clutch points with 166.

Even in the award’s short history, a clear trend has emerged: voters heavily favor total clutch scoring. De’Aaron Fox won the inaugural award with an NBA-best 194 clutch points, and Stephen Curry followed by leading the league with 198 in 2023–24.

The lone exception came when Edwards led the league with 157 clutch points but lost out to Brunson. A key factor was efficiency — Brunson scored 156 points in just 28 games with clutch minutes, while Edwards needed 42 games to reach his total.

The takeaway is fairly straightforward: tracking the clutch scoring leaderboard throughout the season can reveal betting value. Gilgeous-Alexander built an early lead in total points but didn’t become a runaway favorite until late in the year — leaving room for bettors who stayed attentive to the market.

Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic is my preseason pick as of today, but this race could feature plenty of movement.

Prediction: Luka Doncic
