Ultimately, these great players capitalized on the opportunity to capture the title and call themselves NBA champions.
Who in the league’s history has the most NBA Finals games wins? And how many of these victories were actually converted into a title?
Five Boston Celtics legends make it to the top five list, and Bill Russell has the most games won in the NBA Finals with 45. He accumulated this NBA-leading figure by reaching the finals 12 times in his 13-year career. Along with these wins, Russell bagged 11 titles overall, also an NBA-best number.
Jones was Russell’s teammate during their 1960s domination. Like Russell, Jones only missed two seasons without a title by bringing home 10 championships in his 12-year career with the C’s. He was one of the main offensive players on the team, with his NBA Finals career average of 17.9 points and 4.9 rebounds in 64 games.
Another Celtic royalty Tom Heinsohn is included on this list with 34 NBA Finals games wins. He suited up with Boston from 1956 to 1965 and was part of the 1960s dynasty with Russell and Jones. He could have more wins to his tally, but he only played for eight seasons and put up 19.9 points and 9.1 rebounds in 52 games.
Completing the top five list were John Havlicek (31 wins), K.C. Jones (30 wins) and Frank Ramsey (30 wins). Both Havlicek and Jones won 8 NBA titles, while Ramsey picked up 7 of his own. Thanks to their performances in the finals, Boston is tied for the most titles in NBA history with 17, tied with their rival, the Los Angeles Lakers.
