The Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon is right around the corner, but who are the top players you should be watching when the games tip?Â
5 Best Players in Field of 68 24-Hour Opening Day Marathon
Cam’Ron Fletcher, 6-7, 220, Gr., F, High Point
- 25-26 stats: 13.2 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.3 steals at High Point
Fletcher had 14 points to help High Point upset Wisconsin in the first round of last year’s NCAA Tournament, and then he went off for 25 points against Arkansas in the second round. He’s been voted the preseason Big South player of the year, and for good reason.Â
Roman Domon, 6-9, 225, So., W, Murray State
- 25-26 stats: 14.2 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 36.8% 3FG at Murray State
Domon burst onto the scene as a freshman after playing professionally overseas in France. He won the Missouri Valley’s freshman of the year award and is now one of the favorites to win the league’s player of the year this season. He’s a very skilled wing who can handle the ball and initiate offense.
Deuce Jones, 6-2, 185, Jr., G, UAB
- 25-26 stats: 15.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.3 apg at St. Joe’s
Jones won the A-10 rookie of the year as a freshman at La Salle in 2024-25. He then moved to Saint Joe’s and left the program midway through last season after playing just 10 games. He was very productive when he was on the court and has been named to the American Conference’s preseason second team.
Jordan Watford, 6-5, 187, So., G, Queens
- 25-26 stats: 11.8 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 3.9 apg at Queens
Watford has great positional size for a point guard and started eight games last season. He was named to the ASUN all-freshman team and is featured on the preseason All-ASUN team for this season. He led Queens in assists and will still be relied on as a table-setter, but he’ll also be asked to take a jump with his scoring.
Larry Johnson, 6-4, 200, So., G, McNeese
- 25-26 stats: 17.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.4 apg at McNeese
Johnson enjoyed a very successful freshman season, winning the Southland’s freshman of the year and making first-team all-conference. He can really get downhill, and if his 3-point percentage of 23.8% can improve, he’ll be on track to win POTY in the Southland.
