Diontae Johnson Contract: Salary, Cap Hit, Potential Extension

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson will have an $8 million base salary in 2023. Although he was drafted in 2019, he signed an extension in the summer of 2022.

The Pittsburgh Steelers wideout is still on his first contract after being drafted in 2019. Out of Toledo, Johnson signed a four-year, $4,280,962 deal with the Steelers, including a $1,133,428 signing bonus, with $1,133,428 guaranteed and an average annual salary of $1,070,241.

Johnson later signed a two-year, $36,710,000 contract with the team, including a $17,500,000 signing bonus, with $27,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $18,355,000. Of that two-year extension, $19 million was guaranteed. Johnson has a $2.5 million roster bonus in 2023 and a $3 million roster bonus in 2024.

The 26-year-old has a $16,333,333 cap hit in 2023 and an $8,000,000 base salary. Johnson’s dead cap value would be $19,666,667.

Diontae Johnson Potential Extension

Although Diontae Johnson could see his contract restructured this offseason, he’s under contract through 2024 and can potentially be a UFA in 2025. Johnson is coming off a year where he caught 86 balls for 882 yards but could not find the endzone. It was considered a down season after hauling in seven and eight touchdowns in his previous two seasons.

If Johnson continues his current trajectory, it’s hard to see his average annual salary increasing on his next deal. He’ll likely find himself on a similar contract to the one he currently has, with potentially more years.
