UFC Edmonton: Buckley vs. Malott: Prediction
I predict a decision win for Malott over Buckley because he’s more technical and defensively responsible. Malott maximizes his jabs pretty well to set up his power punches, which are the hooks and uppercuts that significantly compromise opponents when landed clean.
Both have incredible power in their hands, but Buckley doesn’t head away from the centerline, and his hands stay low, which makes him vulnerable to straight punches from Malott. Their speed is also almost the same.
Another factor is Malott’s better grappling, as he can grapple and force opponents to the mat. This has been the main chink in the armor for Buckley because he has struggled to defend takedowns.
Joaquin Buckley’s Recent Fight Results
Buckley is a veteran contender who has been with the UFC since 2020. In his last five fights, he recorded three wins and two losses: victories over Nursulton Ruziboev, Stephen Thompson, and Colby Covington, and losses to Kamaru Usman and Sean Brady.
Mike Malott’s Recent Fight Results
Malott earned his UFC contract via Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021. He won four of his last five bouts, defeating Trevin Giles, Charles Radtke, Kevin Holland, and Gilbert Burns, while Neil Magny handed him his lone defeat.
