UFC Vegas 117: Timmy Cuamba vs. Benardo Sopaj: Prediction

My prediction is a decision win for Sopaj over Cuamba, as he’s the better overall striker with one-punch knockout ability. Even though Cuamba will hold the edge in height, reach, and leg reach, Sopaj can nullify them with his immense forward pressure.

This forward pressure works pretty well for Sopaj. It not only allows him to close the distance and fire his powerful punches, but also forces his opponents to throw sloppy strikes that he can effectively counter.

If Cuamba crumbles under the pressure that Sopaj will produce, he’ll get caught with several combinations and counters. Even if Cuamba decides to have a grappling-heavy approach, Sopaj’s takedown defense will be enough to stop takedown attempts and break out of the clinch.

Timmy Cuamba’s Recent Fight Results

Cuamba is a standout from other fight organizations before he joined Dana White’s Contender Series in 2023. After a victory in the competition that secured him a UFC contract, he has split his four UFC fights, with victories over ChangHo Lee and Roberto Romero and losses to Bolaji Oki and Lucas Almeida.

Benardo Sopaj’s Recent Fight Results

Sopaj was a former Fight Club Rush and Allstars Fight Night titleholder when the UFC signed him in 2024. He has a 1-1 record inside the octagon, as he dropped his promotional debut to Vinicius Oliveira, but bounced back with a win over Ricky Turcios.
