Most Likely to Win Group J at 2026 FIFA World Cup

Argentina (-300) is predicted to win Group J at the World Cup. At that price, the current World Cup holders have a 75% implied probability of finishing atop their group.

UEFA side Austria (+450) is priced as the closest challenger. Their price implies a 22.2% chance to come through as group winners.

Group J World Cup 2026 Prediction

Based on a favorable draw against nations lacking impressive results, I predict Argentina (-300) wins Group J.

If there’s cause for concern with Argentina, it’s the recent injury to defender Cristian Romero.

The Tottenham defender suffered a knee injury in April, leaving his World Cup status questionable.

We’ve also seen inconsistent defensive performances from Argentina since the last World Cup.

Last March, Argentina played a World Cup qualifier against Brazil. Against a really good attack, they surrendered only a single big scoring chance.

In June, Argentina allowed five big chances in a qualifier against Colombia. Three came before an Argentina red card in the 71st minute.

Very surprisingly, Argentina lost 2-1 to Paraguay in qualifying with Lionel Messi in the lineup. It remains the only blemish over the last calendar year with Messi in the Starting XI.

Any interest in stepping in front of Argentina, though, dissipated once the draw happened. Austria and Algeria both lack experience and results against good competition.

The former did capture a 3-2 win over the Netherlands at the 2024 Euros. However, Austria simultaneously won only one point from six in qualifying against Bosnia.

Not since March 2025 has Austria played a side ranked 40th or better in the FIFA rankings. Ralf Rangnick’s side fell 2-0 to Serbia in that fixture.

The same is true of Algeria. Only once since August 2025 has the African side played a top-40 FIFA side.

Algeria lost 2-0 at the Africa Cup of Nations to Nigeria while allowing 3.4 expected goals.

Given those performances, Argentina likely wins this group by default. The price, however, renders it an unactionable opinion.
