There are several Week 1 college football games with blowout potential, as suggested by big spreads at the sportsbook.
Whether the gap is driven by two-deep talent gap, top-to-bottom roster depth, or tough scheduling, these FBS-vs-FBS games have the highest potential for one-sided outcomes this week.

Week 1 Potential Blowout Breakdown
1. Ohio State vs. Ball State
Date:Â Saturday, Sept. 5
Time: 12:30 p.m ET
Ohio State’s non-conference games against non-Power Four teams the last two seasons:
- Grambling: Won 70-0
- Ohio: Won 37-9
- Akron: Won 52-6
- Western Michigan: 56-0
- Marshall: 49-14
The Buckeyes rarely stumble against inferior competition, routinely blowing out these teams. Another blowout seems likely against a Ball State team with six consecutive losing seasons and an offense relying on unproven transfers to improve upon 15.8 points per game last year.
2. Oklahoma vs. UTEP
Date: Friday, Sept. 4
Time: 8 p.m. ET
Quarterback John Mateer is back for an Oklahoma team that beat two Group of Six teams last year by an average of 41.5 points.
While UTEP wasn’t as bad last year as their 2-10 record suggests — and lost to Texas by only 17 points — their two-deep was gutted and could be an early victim for Oklahoma’s playoff résumé.
3. Indiana vs. North Texas
Date: Saturday, Sept. 5
Time: 12 p.m. ET
After an uninspiring 27-14 win over Old Dominion in last year’s opener, Indiana blasted Kennesaw State (57-9), Indiana State (73-0), and several conference opponent en route to the national title. They had eight wins by at least 34 points.
North Texas, meanwhile, is one offseason into an enormous rebuild under first-year head Neal Brown.
