Home Run Predictions Today: Friday, July 17

  • Chicago Cubs 3B Alex Bregman vs. Twins (+420)

Who Will Hit a Home Run Today?

I’m predicting Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman will hit a home run on Friday night against the Minnesota Twins at Wrigley Field.

Bregman hasn’t quite met expectations in his first season with the Cubs, but he appeared to get things going just before the All-Star break. He hit a home run in each of his past two contests, bringing his season total to nine.

At these odds, I’m willing to back Bregman to maintain that momentum out of the break, especially in this matchup.

Minnesota Twins right-hander Bailey Ober has a flyball rate of 52% and has given up 1.63 home runs per nine innings this year. That spells trouble for tonight, as the forecast calls for winds of 12 miles per hour on a hot evening in Chicago.

Ballpark Pal’s home run projections give Bregman the seventh-best chance to hit a home run during Friday’s MLB slate. His fair odds are projected closer to +295, so I’m willing to back him at +400 or better.
