Both teams will send their ace to the mound, with Max Fried starting for New York and Logan Webb getting the nod for San Francisco. The Yankees are short favorites on the road, while the total is listed at seven.

Based on the initial MLB betting lines, I like the under on Logan Webb’s strikeout prop (6.5) for my Yankees vs. Giants prediction ahead of their matchup on opening night.
Generally speaking, pitching markets can be a tad inflated to start the season. Pitchers aren’t fully ramped up, so they might exit the game earlier than expected. That’s why Webb’s outs prop is just 16.5 on Wednesday.
However, I prefer to fade his strikeout prop instead. It’s likely being priced the highest of all Webb’s props after he posted a 26.2% strikeout rate last year, his best such clip since 2021.
But Webb’s production wasn’t as good against left-handed batters. His strikeout rate was 4% worse against lefties, while his K-BB% was 19.2%. Those numbers aren’t bad, but it explains why he threw more cutters and changeups during spring training.
If Webb’s adjustments against left-handed batters aren’t fully ready on opening night, the Yankees could have a serious advantage. They have six left-handed batters in their starting lineup.
Webb’s stat line from last year’s opening day feels extremely possible in this matchup. He whiffed five batters and allowed three runs on six hits in five innings. Webb has struck out five or fewer batters in back-to-back openers.
I project another five-K performance on Wednesday, so I like this under as long as it’s trading at 6.5.
