  • The Atlanta Hawks have the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
  • Zaccharie Risacher is the new betting favorite to be the top pick.

Despite having just a 3% chance of winning the lottery, the Atlanta Hawks received the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The Hawks will have an offseason of change after missing the playoffs with a 36-46 overall record last year. But what will they do with the No. 1 pick?

The latest NBA Draft odds at the BetMGM online sportsbook help answer that question.

Prediction for No. 1 Pick: Donovan Clingan (+350)

  • Pick originally made at +1100 odds on May 16

As of a week before the draft, Zaccharie Risacher passed Alex Sarr as the betting favorite to be the top pick in this class.

Risacher odds have gone from +425 to -120, while Sarr is now +120 after starting with -300 odds.

This recent movement comes after some reporting that the Hawks have yet to be able to bring in Sarr for a workout to this point. Most mocks indicate Atlanta is deciding between Risacher and UConn’s Donovan Clingan.

That bodes well for me, as I have a +1100 flier on Clingan from mid-May.

My argument was that the odds were too long for an Atlanta team needing frontcourt help, especially since the Hawks haven’t drafted a non-college player in the first round since 2018.

Clingan, a 7-foot-2, 280-pound center, won consecutive national championships at UConn to end his collegiate career. Last season, Clingan averaged 13 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks in 22.6 minutes per contest.

The league has been dominated by centers lately, and the Hawks might trust the advanced metrics regarding Clingan’s overall impact.

Even at his current odds, Clingan is a solid bet to be the top pick in this draft.
