Since the 1985 expansion of the NCAA basketball Tournament, one conference has accounted for multiple Final Four teams a whopping 23 times. That includes the Big Ten’s 2026 success with both Michigan and Illinois.

So while it may feel like a rare achievement for one conference to score multiple Final Four teams, it actually happens more than 50% of the time.

Amazingly, it’s still been nearly 40 years since the last time the national championship game had two teams from the same conference.

You’d think it would have happened more frequently, given the rate at which there are two Final Four teams from the same conference.
