  • The Chargers have $70.4 million in salary cap space this offseason.
  • As of Feb. 26, only five teams have more salary cap space than Los Angeles.
  • This offseason, positional targets include wide receiver and defensive line.

Based on Chargers odds, Los Angeles can best be described as a fringe contender in 2025.ย

In Jim Harbaughโ€™s second season, the Chargers have +2500 odds to win Super Bowl 60. Additionally, they possess ample salary cap space with which to work.ย

Currently, the Chargers possess $70.4 million in cap space and $62.2 million in effective cap space, per overthecap.com.ย

Los Angeles isnโ€™t without some key free agents. Khalil Mack, Poona Ford, Kristian Fulton, J.K. Dobbins and Bradley Bozeman all enter the free agent pool from last yearโ€™s roster.ย

Chargers Cap Space: Free Agent Position Targets

Depending on how Los Angeles approaches its current free agent class, a number of positions could end up as targets.ย

That said, if Mack and Ford turn to newer pastures, the defensive line immediately becomes a priority.ย

Nine Chargers played at least 650 snaps last season. Mack and Ford ranked first and second, respectively, in defensive grades, per PFF.ย

One area where the Chargers definitely could benefit is a top-tier wide receiver.ย

Josh Palmer is a free agent this offseason. Even if Palmer returns, it leaves the Chargers offense without a top wide receiver for a decent passing offense.ย

Chargers Salary Cap Space: Player Targets

Tee Higgins

Higgins and the Chargers are a natural fit. It places Higgins into a team with ample cap space to pay him and provides the Chargers with an outstanding receiver.ย

Higgins ranked seventh in PFFโ€™s receiving grades last season.ย

While Chargers rookie Ladd McConkey ranked 14th, the Georgia product primarily runs routes from the slot.ย

Higgins provides a massive upgrade over both Palmer and Quentin Johnston, the two primary outside receivers for Justin Herbert.ย

Josh Sweat

Mack appears unlikely to return to the Chargers, based on media reports.ย

Sweat excelled as a member of the Eaglesโ€™ defense last season and provides a natural replacement on the edge.ย

While not on Mackโ€™s level, Sweat ranked 30th of 72nd amongst edge rushers in defensive grades amongst players who participated in at least 500 snaps last year.ย

It would also likely come at a discount to Mackโ€™s $19 million APY from his last contract, leaving cap room for other positions on the roster.
