After another underwhelming season, the Minnesota Vikings pushed Mike Zimmer off the NFL hot seat and into unemployment. And they hired Kevin O’Connell as his replacement.
O’Connell is a first-time head coach and another branch from the Sean McVay coaching tree.
How Old Is Kevin O’Connell?
Kevin O’Connell is 37 years old.
Born May 28, 1985, in Knoxville, Tennessee, O’Connell played college football at San Diego State, starting 21 games as the team’s quarterback. In addition, O’Connell was drafted into the NFL by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2007 draft, leading to a four-year career as a backup quarterback with six different franchises, three of which he was only on the practice squad.
Before being hired by the Vikings, O’Connell spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Rams. O’Connell has plenty of experience coaching football, working with four different NFL teams before being hired to his fifth organization in Minnesota. His coaching career began in 2015 as the Cleveland Browns quarterbacks coach.
O’Connell won his first game as Vikings’ coach, a 23-7 win over the Green Bay Packers that easily covered the spread.
