  • Mark Giordano is the oldest active NHL player in the 2023-24 season.
  • Giordano is 40 years of age as of the start of the season.

Many say age is just a number, and there are always at least a few NHL players each season proving that to be true.

A number of players are still playing in their late 30s, but one has reached the 40-year milestone — Mark Giordano of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

This will be the defenseman’s 18th NHL season.

The oldest player in league history is Gordie Howe, who played his final NHL game for the Hartford Whalers on April 11, 1980, at 52 years of age.

*Note: all ages are as of the 2023-24 season opener.
