- The American Express had a purse of $8 million in 2023.
- The winner's share was $1,440,000.
- Jon Rahm won the event for the second time.
It was a unique week on the PGA Tour for The American Express in La Quinta, California.
The event was at PGA West, which has three courses — Pete Dye SC, Nicklaus TC, La Quinta CC. Players played all three courses for the first three rounds, and then the final round was exclusively at the Pete Dye SC.
It was also the first of two pro-am events on the PGA Tour this season, meaning each professional was paired with an amateur. The cut was after the third round instead of the typical second round.
It was a solid field, with 10 top 20 players in the Official World Golf Rankings teeing it up.
Jon Rahm, who won the event in 2018, had the best golf odds to win going into the tournament at +600. And he eventually won, finishing one shot ahead of Davis Thompson.
Rahm’s final round 68 had him finish the week at 27-under. This was his second win of the season, and second in as many starts.
The tournament had a purse of $8 million.
