The opening bout of UFC Abu Dhabi will be the battle of veteran contender Cody Gibson and newcomer Abdul Hussein, as they collide Saturday inside the Etihad Arena on Yas Island, UAE.

Even without experience competing inside the octagon, Hussein still heads into the match as the considerable betting favorite with -550 UFC odds. Meanwhile, Gibson, who’s currently on a two-fight losing streak, will be the +400 betting underdog.

UFC Abu Dhabi: Cody Gibson vs. Abdul Hussein: Prediction

The speed advantage Hussein has over Gibson is why I pick Hussein. Hussein is incredibly fast and tricky during scrambles, which could present problems to Gibson, who’s already 38 and is on the tail end of his pro career.

Hussein successfully carried his speed from his flyweight days to the bantamweight division with added power in his strikes. Gibson, at this point of his career, has lost a step or two in his timing, and I think he gets caught in one of the scrambles.

Cody Gibson’s Recent Fight Results

Gibson has been with the UFC since 2023 after he became a finalist in The Ultimate Fighter 31. He competed in five bouts under the promotion, recording two wins against Brian Kelleher and Chad Anheliger, and dropping the other three to Miles Johns, Da’Mon Blackshear, and Aoriqileng.

Abdul Hussein’s Recent Fight Results

Hussein was the former Ice Cage champion before the UFC signed him this year. He’s riding an eight-fight win streak that dates back to 2023, and his last five victories were against Hansraj Samota, Eduardo Mora, Sami Yahia, Gift Walker, and Tyson Nam.
