The No. 5 Washington Mystics and No. 4 Atlanta Dream will battle in a best-of-three Round 1 series in the 2026 WNBA Playoffs. Tipoff for Game 1 is set for 7 p.m. ET on Sunday at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Prime Video.

Mystics vs. Dream Prediction: Sunday, Sept. 27

  • Mystics +7.5

My Mystics vs. Dream prediction leans toward taking the points with the visitors, though I’d prefer to wait for more markets to become available at BetMGM. Both the spread and total align with my Game 1 projections.

It typically makes sense to fade an inexperienced team in the playoffs. The Mystics are the league’s youngest squad. But this was an ideal draw for them in Round 1, considering how similarly these teams play.

Both the Dream and Mystics lean on their defensive identity. Washington ranked second in defensive rating, while Atlanta finished third and has Angel Reese, who closed as the betting favorite in the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year odds. Of note, Reese’s status is worth monitoring after an early exit in the regular-season finale.

In a potentially low-scoring game, points become more valuable. That’s why I prefer backing Washington at +7.5, as I trust its ability to stay within striking distance.

The Mystics won two of the three head-to-head meetings with the Dream, with both victories coming at home. Their lone loss in this season series came on June 6.

The Dream haven’t been a trustworthy team in the postseason. They last won a playoff series in 2016. They lost to an Indiana Fever team missing Caitlin Clark in Round 1 last year as the No. 2 seed.

Atlanta might be in a favorable position to exorcize some playoff demons, but I don’t fully trust this team to win by margin just yet.

Prediction: Mystics +7.5
