Alexander Zverev has been an excellent all-court tennis player for years. The German pro, whose parents immigrated to Germany in 1991, reached No. 2 in the world in 2022. He had already won more than 20 tour events entering the 2026 season.

Nevertheless, Zverev never quite became a household name outside of tennis fans. He struggled to break through the glass ceiling created by the late-lingering Big Three era.

With Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic both collecting Grand Slam titles deep into their 30s, Zverev never quite found the top-line legitimacy of other next-generation players like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

But 2026 was the season when all that changed. With Nadal retired, Djokovic nearing 40, Alcaraz hurt, and Sinner tired, there was a power vacuum at the top of the ATP that was available for anyone to step into.

Zverev seized the moment, rewriting his legacy with multiple Slam wins in 2026.
