Week 7 happened. Now what?
After a shocking week of game results and upsets that transformed the online sports betting market, I’m back to hunt for a little opening value among the available Week 8 college football spreads.
Here are a couple early numbers that jumped out at me.
Miami vs. Pittsburgh Prediction
Pittsburgh quarterback Mason Heintschel tore his ACL at the beginning of October in Pitt’s win at Virginia Tech.
The Panthers have been trying to figure things out at quarterback since. Holden
Geriner started the game against North Carolina, which Pitt lost.
Pat Narduzzi turned to freshman Corey Dailey on Saturday against Boston College. He was 11-for-25 with two interceptions, and Pittsburgh lost to the ACC’s last-place team.
With Pittsburgh now looking like a horribly one-dimensional team, this is a pretty awful time to have to play one of last remaining undefeated teams in college football in Miami. And after Miami’s near-miss against Florida State on Saturday, the Hurricanes are unlikely to enter this game sleepwalking.
This is a smash spot for Miami. I want to come in under the -21 while I still can.
Prediction: Miami -20.5
South Carolina vs. Tennessee Prediction
This number opened as a virtual pick ’em, but early sharp action is moving the line toward South Carolina. The Gamecocks are coming off a bye and a shocking road win at Florida, while Tennessee is in a classic letdown spot after the big Alabama win.
This is exactly the kind of bet that’s perfect for this weekly early look column. South Carolina is steaming toward -3, and forward-thinking bettors will want the closing line value ahead of a potential move onto the key number.
Prediction: South Carolina -2.5
Early College Football Bets for Week 8
- Miami -20.5
- South Carolina -2.5
