Braves vs. Dodgers Prediction for Game 2 NLDS

  • Braves F5 spread (+0.5)

As of this writing, it’s unclear who will start for the Braves in Game 2 of the NLDS following their 5-3 loss on Saturday.

Veteran left-hander Chris Sale would seem like the obvious choice, but the Braves asked him to record the final four outs of Thursday’s clincher in the NL Wild Card. Sale threw 21 pitches after tossing 6 1/3 innings in Tuesday’s Game 1.

One could easily argue that Sale was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Thursday, so he could still be ready to pitch in Game 2. But he’s also 37 years old and has dealt with injuries in the past. Sale knows his body best, so it’s best to assume he will be ready if he’s announced as the starter.

That said, if the Braves opt to hold him until Game 3, they should have plenty of options after keeping their top relievers out on Saturday. Raisel Iglesias, Dylan Lee, Didier Fuentes, and Robert Suárez should all be available, especially with an off day on Monday.

Regardless of the Braves’ decision, they appear to be in a better spot than they were in Game 1. Blake Snell will get the ball in Game 2 instead of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a Dodgers decision made with the NLCS in mind.

The Braves could make them regret that move with a quick start on Sunday.

Prediction: Braves F5 spread (+0.5)
