MLB World Series MVP Odds 2024: Best Bets & Predictions

  • Shohei Ohtani is the betting favorite to win the 2024 World Series MVP award.
  • Ohtani is +950 for his first trip to the playoffs.

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has long been considered the best player in baseball. He is on his way to winning the National League MVP award as a designated hitter.

The only thing left for Ohtani to accomplish is postseason success. After missing the playoffs in his six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, Ohtani will embark on his first trip to the postseason this fall.

With the Dodgers being World Series odds favorites for much of the year, itโ€™s no surprise to see their best player as the World Series MVP favorite. Ohtani is +950 (after opening at +900) to win the award at the online sportsbook.

Betting against Ohtani is difficult, but anything can happen in October.ย

Here is a look at a fun MLB odds market and my best bets to win World Series MVP:

MLB World Series MVP favorite

Shohei Ohtani (+950)

Ohtani is the best baseball player in the world, but I have no interest in betting this price tag on him to win World Series MVP.

The Dodgersโ€™ rotation is a concern heading, which could prevent them from reaching the World Series for the fourth consecutive year.

Even if Los Angeles wins the whole thing, Ohtani may not have played well enough to win the award, given that teammates Mookie Betts (+1500) and Freddie Freeman (+1700) are also in the mix.

David Ortiz was the last DH-only player to win World Series MVP in 2013 for the Boston Red Sox. Jorge Soler (DH/RF) won it for the Atlanta Braves in 2021. Iโ€™ll pass on this price, even if itโ€™s the best value Ohtani will have the rest of the way.

MLB World Series MVP sleeper

Jurickson Profar (+6600)

The Dodgers are more vulnerable than the baseball playoff odds indicate, meaning the NL could feature some chaos. The San Diego Padres have been my favorite dark horse since they were +4500 to win the World Series in the preseason.

San Diegoโ€™s futures odds now have this team as a contender, with a +550 value to win it all. The Padres have locked up one of the best bullpens in baseball since the trade deadline, acquiring Tanner Scott and Jason Adam. They have a staff built for October.

While Fernando Tatis Jr. (+2000) and Manny Machado (+2800) are bigger names, Jurickson Profar has actually led San Diegoโ€™s lineup this year. His wRC+ of 139 is sixth in the NL, illustrating his offensive impact.

Itโ€™s a long-shot bet for a reason, but Profarโ€™s odds are enticing to me. His odds have actually moved from 125/1 to 66/1 since I originally highlighted him as a sleeper.

MLB World Series MVP prediction

Bobby Witt Jr. (+2200)

I see no reason to bet anyone near the top of the oddsboard. Anything can happen in October, as evidenced by the Texas Rangers winning last year’s World Series.

Shortstop Corey Seager put the team on his back in the postseason, carrying the Rangers from the No. 5 seed in the AL to a 4-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the World Series. It was a surprising run for a team that lost 94 games the previous year.

Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is capable of replicating that performance. The Royals are the No. 5 seed in the 2024 MLB playoff picture after losing 106 games last year.

The Royals have a rotation built for a deep run, and Witt has demonstrated his ability to shoulder the offensive burden. Witt ranks second in all of baseball in WAR, trailing only New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge.

With Kansas Cityโ€™s World Series odds moving from +15000 to +1100 since the preseason, this wager might be the best way to jump on the bandwagon in October. It’s already moved from 50/1 (when I first suggested it) to 22/1 following the Wild Card round.
