How To Read NFL Odds
The most common types of NFL odds are spread, moneyline, and over/under total:
- NFL Spread: How many points will a team win or lose by?
For example, if Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals are favored by 2.5 points against Najee Harris and the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bengals must win by at least three points to cover the spread and cash a Bengals’ spread bet. The Steelers must win the game or lose by two or fewer points to cash a Steelers’ spread bet.
- NFL Moneyline: Which team will win the game?
If the Seattle Seahawks are -125 moneyline favorites against the Arizona Cardinals, a Seahawks’ moneyline bet will cash if the Seahawks win. If you bet $10 on the Seahawks at -125, the payout would be $18, including the stake.
- NFL Over/Under Total: How many total points will be scored in the game?
If the over/under total for a game is 48.5, the two teams must combine for at least 49 points for Over bets to cash. Or they must combine for 48 or fewer points for Under bets to cash.
- NFL Prop Bets: How many passing yards will Kyler Murray have? How many total touchdowns will Christian McCaffrey score?
There are dozens of prop bets available for each game. From player props like over/under rushing yards or longest touchdown to team props like points scored or turnovers, you can focus on any area of the game.
