  • Jackson Chourio is the youngest active MLB player in the 2024 season.
  • Chourio is 20 years old and plays for the Milwaukee Brewers.

MLB teams continue to call up their prospects much earlier, so it’s important to keep track of the sport’s promising young players.

The youngest player in MLB history was Joe Nuxhall, who debuted in the MLB for the Cincinnati Reds on June 10, 1944, at 15 years of age. Nuxhall’s extremely early major league selection was the exception rather than the rule, but there are still plenty of players proving that sometimes career success comes sooner rather than later.

Jackson Chourio — 20 years old

The Brewers are counting on Chourio to be the face of their franchise, which is why they inked him to an eight-year, $82 million extension in December. It shattered the record for largest contract ever signed by a player before making their MLB debut.

A native of Maracaibo, Venezuela, Chourio has posted an .837 OPS across three Minor League seasons and has converted from shortstop to outfielder. He hit a career-best 22 home runs in 2023.

Chourio, who just turned 20 on March 11, is a solid contender in the NL Rookie of the Year odds market for the 2024 season.

Jackson Holliday — 20 years old

The No. 1 prospect in baseball didn’t make the initial roster, but he needed only 10 games in the minors before the Baltimore Orioles called him up.

Holliday, the son of former MLB slugger Matt Holliday, was selected No. 1 overall in the 2022 MLB Draft. Matt Holliday finished fifth in Rookie of the Year voting during his age-24 season with the Colorado Rockies.

Jackson Holliday will be an AL Rookie of the Year odds favorite for the 2024 campaign. He will play second base, though his long-term position is at shortstop.
