- Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes is the new favorite to win NL Rookie of the Year.
- Rangers’ Wyatt Langford is back to being the favorite in the AL.
Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles were named Rookie of the Year in their respective leagues in 2023, making an immediate impact for two playoff teams.
It also proved that MLB odds are getting better at projecting the future superstars of the league, as Henderson was the preseason favorite in the AL (+250), and Carroll was the No. 2 option (+400) in the NL last spring.
Who will win MLB Rookie of the Year in 2024?

The AL Rookie of the Year race hasn’t featured much drama in recent seasons.
The preseason favorite has won AL Rookie of the Year in two of the last three seasons, with the lone exception being Seattle’s Julio Rodríguez, who was slightly behind Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. in the odds.
But this year’s race has been wide open, even if Wyatt Langford currently leads the way after being a preseason favorite in this market.
Langford struggled out of the gates, opening the door for Oakland Athletics closer Mason Miller to grab an early lead in the race. Miller’s triple-digit fastball is why he’s one of the top candidates in this year’s MLB trade deadline player rankings.
New York Yankees pitcher Luis Gil eventually went from long shot (I bet him at 50/1) to a minus-odds favorite. But some poor recent starts have moved Gil to second on this odds board behind Langford.
Langford has only recently produced better results, so this race is ongoing.
Gil is currently the best bet, as the All-Star break could provide an excellent opportunity for a reset.
Prediction: Luis Gil (+225)

While the AL Rookie of the Year race is wide open, Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes has completely shut the door in the NL.
Since debuting in May, Skenes has showcased some of the best stuff in baseball. He earned a start in this year’s All-Star Game and has emerged as a serious contender in the NL Cy Young odds race.
Skenes has a four-seam fastball that averages over 99 mph and a split-finger pitch that generates a 30% whiff rate. He’s been more dominant than anyone could have expected early in his career.
Skenes’ dominance has overshadowed a strong NL rookie class. In a typical season, Jackson Merrill, Shōta Imanaga, and Gavin Stone would all be solid contenders for this award.
However, the Skenes’ show has been anything but ordinary.
Prediction: Paul Skenes (-1200)
