As of this writing, BetMGM doesn’t offer player prop markets for Tuesday’s 76ers vs. Knicks matchup. But I’m interested in the over on Tyrese Maxey’s scoring line, especially if it’s listed at 20.5.
Projecting the 76ers’ usage at the start of the season might seem tricky following their blockbuster offseason moves. The additions of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown seem like they’d shake things up. After all, there is only one ball, as they say.
Well, my theory is that Maxey is still the team’s best player. And the offense will keep running through him. If that’s the case, his scoring line should be higher than 20.5.
Maxey averaged 28.3 points per game last year. He scored at least 21 points in 62 of his 71 games. His points prop often closed in the high 20s by the end of the regular season.
While Brown and James could reduce his workload, I still expect Maxey to lead the team in scoring, field goal attempts, and minutes. James has proven he’s willing to defer more at his age, while Brown is used to being the No. 2 option on a team.
The Knicks are also a bit more vulnerable against quick guards. They ranked 21st in defending pick-and-roll ball-handlers last season, per Props Madness.
I’m backing Maxey to deliver in Tuesday’s marquee matchup between the Knicks and the 76ers. I like this over at 21.5 points or better.
