Hornets Win Total Prediction

  • Pass, but prefer under 37.5 wins (-105) — Pick made on Aug. 14

I lean toward the under on the Hornets’ win total (37.5) coming off their surprising trip to the play-in tournament last year.

After a 44-win campaign, the Hornets traded their franchise player. They swapped out LaMelo Ball for Naz Reid. That tells me Charlotte doesn’t believe it can replicate last year’s success in a much deeper conference.

In his sixth season since the Hornets selected him with the No. 3 overall pick, Ball played 72 games, averaging 20.1 points and 7.1 assists. According to Databallr, the Hornets had a +8.9 net rating with him on the floor last year.

While Charlotte’s decision to trade away Ball may prove a savvy long-term move, I think it will lead to some early struggles. Without him, Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel will have to do much more on offense.

In addition, the Hornets continue to have an unproven center rotation. They selected rookie Hannes Steinbach with a first-round pick after leaning on Moussa Diabate last year.

Progression isn’t always linear in the NBA. I think the Hornets are comfortable taking a step back in 2026-27 to give themselves a better chance of making serious noise down the road.
