I like the under on the Pelicans’ win total (27.5) for the 2026-27 season.
Theoretically, New Orleans’ roster could look a lot different by February. The front office has suggested nobody is available for trade, despite many of its top players constantly being linked to trade rumors.
Given my low expectations for the Pelicans, it wouldn’t surprise me if they ultimately move some key players.
Trey Murphy III, who might be the team’s best player, seems most likely to net the biggest return. Murphy averaged 21.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game on the wing last year, and several contenders would love to add him to their lineup.
Herbert Jones is also someone worth monitoring at the deadline.
Even if the Pelicans stay put, I’m skeptical they have enough talent to do much damage this season. Zion Williamson is unlikely to play as many games as he did last year (62), while Derik Queen and Yves Missi are unproven frontcourt options.
Point guard Dejounte Murray has played just 45 games in two seasons since being traded to New Orleans. Backup point guard Jeremiah Fears turns 20 in October.
The Pelicans appear to be another year or two away from being competitive.
