NBA Playoff Predictor 2024-25: Postseason Odds for Each Team

Shane Jackson @Sjacksonmgm Oct 14, 2024, 1:30 PM
  • The Boston Celtics have the highest price (-10000) to make the playoffs in 2024-25.
  • The Wizards, Trail Blazers, Nets, and Jazz are all -10000 to miss the playoffs.
  • My best bet to miss the playoffs in 2024-25 is the Los Angeles Lakers.

Ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season, basketball odds are available for all 30 teams to make or miss the playoffs.

Based on the preseason NBA odds, the Boston Celtics have the highest price (-10000) of notching a postseason berth after winning last yearโ€™s championship.

Alternatively, the Washington Wizards, Portland Trail Blazers, Brooklyn Nets, and Utah Jazz all have the same preseason value to miss the playoffs via the online sportsbook.

NBA Playoffs Odds – Best Bet

Pick: Lakers to Miss the Playoffs (-115)

Look closely at the oddsboard, and you will notice that the Lakers have a better chance of missing the playoffs than they do of making it this year.

Los Angeles is -105 of notching a postseason berth, giving the team an implied probability of 51.22%. The Lakers are -115 for an implied probability of 53.49% of missing the playoffs.

That might seem like an interesting two-way market for a Lakers team coming off consecutive playoff appearances, but they have needed a win in the play-in tournament to even make the dance both times.

Los Angeles brings everyone back from a team that ranked 19th overall in net rating last year. JJ Redick is now the teamโ€™s head coach after being in the podcast business during his post-playing career.

Since player-coaches were banned, 16 people have become NBA head coaches without prior coaching experience. Of those 16, only six led their team to the postseason in their first season at the helm.

  • Steve Nash (Nets) in 2020-21
  • Steve Kerr (Warriors) in 2014-15
  • Jason Kidd (Nets) in 2013-14
  • Vinny Del Negro (Bulls) in 2008-09
  • Isiah Thomas (Pacers) in 2000-01
  • Larry Bird (Pacers) in 1997-98

The Western Conference is too deep for the Lakers to overcome growing pains under Redick. This season could get away from them quickly, particularly if LeBron James or Anthony Davis deal with any injuries after a healthy campaign last year.

With both players coming off the Olympics, donโ€™t be surprised if the Lakers start slowly. Iโ€™ve already suggested betting against them in my NBA opening night predictions when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Lakersโ€™ playoff odds could move swiftly if they struggle out of the gate.
