Experienced NFL coach Joe Lombardi enters his third season as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator.
Lombardi joined Denver alongside Sean Payton prior to the 2023 NFL season. This marks his fifth straight season as an OC – he worked as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator from 2021-22.
Including the Broncos and Chargers, five different teams employed Lombardi on their coaching staff.
The other three teams are the New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons. Here’s a breakdown of Lombardi’s roles with those teams:
- Atlanta Falcons: Defensive Assistant, 2006
- New Orleans Saints: Offensive Assistant (2007-08), Quarterbacks Coach (2009-13, 2016-20)
- Detroit Lions: Offensive Coordinator (2014-15)
Before starting his position with the Falcons, Lombardi acquired more coaching experience in the college ranks.
Excluding a XFL coaching role in 2001, Lombardi spent nine seasons with four different schools:

- VMI: Tight Ends/Tackles (1999)
- Bucknell: Defensive Line (2000)
