Smith joined the Dolphins as part of Mike McDaniel’s first coaching staff.
In his first two seasons, Smith helped guide the Dolphins to a pair of top-6 offensive DVOA ratings, per ftnfantasy.com. Last season, Miami fell to 22nd in that metric.
Prior to his stint with Miami, Smith spent a season as the Chargers’ offensive line coach/running game coordinator.
Smith worked for three additional NFL teams in his career:
- New Orleans Saints: Asst. Offensive Line Coach (2010-14)
- Chicago Bears: Tight Ends Coach (2015-17)
- Las Vegas Raiders: Tight Ends Coach (2018-20)
In addition to his NFL coaching experience, Smith acquired six years of college coaching experience.
His first two seasons in Division I came as a graduate assistant with Miami (OH). Then, Smith jumped to Butler, where he worked on the offensive line and as an offensive coordinator.
