Based on the perception of New York’s defense and Denver’s lack of offensive prowess, my Jets vs Broncos prediction is the Total Under 43.5 Points (-105).
At some point, the Jets defense should see some positive regression.
I recognize the team sits 31st in points allowed and 28th in defensive DVOA. However, only the Eagles and Titans have played a harder set of offenses, per ftnfantasy.com.
Denver ranks 12th in offensive DVOA, but it has come against a pretty easy set of opponents.
Additionally, the Broncos rely on explosives to make the offense go. Through five games, the offense ranks 15th in EPA per play compared to 23rd in success rate.
The one concern? New York ranks 29th in defensive EPA per play vs. sixth in defensive success rate.
Translation: New York is either giving up chunk plays or limiting opponents to short gains.
On the opposite side, New York produced some decent offensive metrics. However, only Buffalo has played an easier set of opposing defenses.
Plus, most of New York’s points have come in garbage time. This season, the Jets are averaging only six first-half points per game compared to 15 second-half points.
Denver, in my estimation, lacks the offensive prowess to create a sizable lead. Right now, the team operates at a significant deficit compared to the offenses the Jets have faced to date.
It should also be noted that four of five Broncos games this season have stayed under this benchmark.
The only exception? At Indianapolis, which has an offense 23 spots ahead of the Jets in DVOA.
Pair that with the travel schedule – both teams arrived in London on Monday – and I predict a lower-scoring game.
