The Super Bowl has never been played in New York City, nor has it been played in the state of New York.

However, the game was played in nearby East Rutherford, N.J. — approximately three miles from the city and state lines — in February 2014. The Seattle Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium.

While it was the first Super Bowl played outside in a cold-weather climate, the temperature at kickoff was only 49 degrees, making it the third-coldest Super Bowl.
