Below, bettors can find NFL odds and a Lions vs Saints prediction for their Week 1 contest.
The clash features some interesting line movements from market opening. Detroit opened as 6.5-point favorites and rose to -7. However, Detroit’s moneyline price fell from -370 at open to -325 with the total moving from 50.5 to 50.
Lions vs Saints Odds: Spread, Moneyline & Over/Under
Saints vs Lions Prediction
Based on New Orleans’ poor defensive record against good offenses last season and Detroit’s success against good units, my Lions vs Saints prediction is the Lions Over 30.5 Points.
Three opponents cleared this number against the ‘25 Saints: the Rams, Bills and Seahawks. It’s my belief Detroit shares more traits with those teams than the 14 that failed to crack 30 points.
Los Angeles and Buffalo scored 34 and 31, respectively, while the Seahawks blitzed New Orleans for 44. The latter matchup included a Tory Horton punt return touchdown by Seattle.
Detroit finished the 2025 season as one of the more variant offenses. Only seven offenses posted more fluid metrics than the Lions, which finished seventh in DVOA.
Over 17 games, the Lions cleared 33 points eight times, and stayed under 24.5 points in the other nine. Indoors, Detroit scored 24 or more in eight of 10 and 34+ five times.
Metrics also reveal the Lions share a ton in common with the Seahawks offense that scored 37 points.
Detroit finished narrowly behind Seattle in pass offense DVOA for the season (32.5% vs. 31.8%). They simultaneously posted superior rushing metrics (-1.7% vs -3.9%).
Defensively, New Orleans recorded worse metrics against the pass last season. Although the unit finished eighth in rush DVOA, they ranked 19th against the pass.
But the Saints struggled to stop the run against quality opponents. In addition to the Rams and Bills games, New Orleans allowed 26 points to Chicago.
Those three games complete the sample size against top-10 offenses with top-10 rushing attacks. In the Bears game, Chicago kicked two field goals from inside the 10-yard line.
Given those factors, I predict the Lions offense dominates a poor unit at home and clears a high benchmark.
