Matthew Stafford popped up in trade rumors for a hot minute during the early portion of the 2025 offseason. With the Rams mounting a compelling on-the-fly rebuild, there was real debate about whether or not a Super Bowl-winning quarterback like Stafford would be a compelling trade piece.
But the Rams decided not to go younger at quarterback, at least for now. Stafford signed a restructured contract that changes the structure and timing of his future payments. He remains under contract through 2026.
Matthew Stafford Contract
After winning the Super Bowl at the end of the 2021 season, Matthew Stafford signed a new four-year contract extension with the Rams worth $160 million.
That extension has been restructured twice, including earlier this year. But the fundamentals haven’t changed – he’s a highly paid veteran quarterback who’s inked through 2026.
The 2025 renegotiation, which restructures the final two years of the deal, carries an $84 million price tag.
Matthew Stafford Salary
Matthew Stafford will earn $44 million from his NFL contract in 2025.
That total breaks down into a base salary of $16 million, a $24 million option bonus, and a $4 million roster bonus.
Matthew Stafford Guaranteed Money
Matthew Stafford’s renegotiated contract includes $40 million in guaranteed money – his 2025 base salary plus his $24 million option.
Most of his 2026 compensation becomes guaranteed on the fifth day of next year’s NFL season calendar.
