  • Chip Kelly returns to the NFL to serve as the Raiders' offensive coordinator.
  • Kelly’s last NFL job came as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
  • This year marks the first time Kelly has worked as an offensive coordinator in the NFL.

Pete Carroll’s initial Raiders coaching staff pegs Chip Kelly as the offensive coordinator.

Most of Kelly’s coaching experience comes at the collegiate level. However, he spent four seasons with the Eagles and 49ers as the head coach.

Kelly’s head coaching tenure started strong, but he faltered later in his career. After beginning 20-14 with the Eagles, his subsequent seasons resulted in an 8-23 effort.

That remains Kelly’s only NFL experience. He also held head coaching positions at UCLA and Oregon in college. Last season, he worked as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator.

Kelly also spent two seasons (2007-08) as the Oregon offensive coordinator. Before joining the Ducks, Kelly worked for New Hampshire as the offensive coordinator.

Kelly also spent time with New Hampshire as the running backs and offensive line coach.

To round out his coaching experience, Kelly held defensive coaching roles at Johns Hopkins and Columbia.

This season, Kelly aims to revamp a Raiders offense that ranked 29th in offensive DVOA last season, per ftnfantasy.com.
