Sam Darnold Contract: Salary, Cap Hit, Potential Extension

After two seasons with the Carolina Panthers, Sam Darnold signed a one-year, $4.5-million contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

In 2023, Darnold will have a base salary of $2,450,000, a signing bonus of $1,000,000, and a workout bonus of $50,000.

His 2022 base salary was nearly $19 million.

Darnold will carry a cap hit of $3,911,768 in 2023.

His contract has a dead cap value of $3,450,000 this year.

Sam Darnold Potential Extension

Because the 49ers’ other two quarterbacks are coming off major injuries, it wouldn’t be inconceivable for Darnold to see significant snaps with the first-team offense over the offseason and into training camp.

If both Trey Lance and Brock Purdy are healthy after the 2023 season, it seems unlikely Darnold would get another mid-seven-figure contract, at least with the 49ers.
