Shinnecock Hills will host the 2026 U.S. Open golf tournament.

Shinnecock last hosted the U.S. Open in 2018. Brooks Koepka won the major tournament, defending his 2017 U.S. Open title at Erin Hills.

Koepka (+1) finished a shot ahead of Tommy Fleetwood and two shots ahead of Dustin Johnson. It marks the only time over the last 10 years the U.S. Open winner finished over par.

Shinnecock also hosted the 2004 U.S. Open, won by Retief Goosen. The South African outpaced Phil Mickelson by two shots to earn his second U.S. Open victory.

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club Course Profile

In 2018, Shinnecock Hills played a 7,450-yard Par 70. It featured four Par 3s, 12 Par 4s and two Par 5s.

Five of the 12 Par 4s measured at least 465 yards on the scorecard. Only two measured under 400 yards.

Heavy bunkering and thick rough defend the setup. Shinnecock features over 160 bunkers on the course, a similar figure to the 2026 PGA Championship at Aronimink.

Like many other U.S. Open sites, players who keep the ball in the fairway earn the best chance to win.

Shinnecock features a high missed fairway penalty and rough penalty at a driver-heavy course.

The greens run slightly larger than PGA Tour standards at 7,500 square feet. Players who miss the greens will encounter brutal scrambling conditions.
