Aston Villa vs. West Ham Prediction, Odds & Match Preview

  • Aston Villa is a -0.5-goal home favorite against West Ham.
  • West Ham has lost 11 straight EPL Sunday matches as an away underdog.
  • My Aston Villa vs. West Ham prediction focuses on the Villa team total.

Off a strong result as road dogs against Arsenal, Aston Villa return home to face a beleaguered West Ham.

Villa stormed back from 2-0 down against Arsenal to capture a 2-2 draw in North London. It marks the fourth match unbeaten for Villa, which currently sits eighth in the league table.

West Ham suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Crystal Palace over the weekend, their third league loss in the last four. Currently, Graham Potter’s side sits 14th in the table.

Aston Villa vs. West Ham Prediction

Based on West Ham’s horrific defensive metrics and Villa’s strong attacking record against bad defenses, my Aston Villa vs. West Ham prediction is Aston Villa Over 1.5 Goals (-165)

The price is a bit much for my liking, though, so pair it with Newcastle Over 1.5 Goals to get the price to +124. For that analysis, head to my Southampton vs. Newcastle prediction

These teams met not too long ago in an FA Cup fixture at Villa Park. It didn’t go well for West Ham, which conceded twice off 2.04 xG and 2.5 post-shot xG, per fotmob.com.

In the reverse fixture between these teams at the London Stadium, Villa similarly dominated.

Unai Emery’s side once again scored twice off 2.03 xG and 1.33 post-shot xG.

Over the entire season, Villa have produced strong attacking performances against the Premier League’s worst defenses.

To date, they’ve faced eight league matches against the seven worst defenses. They’ve cleared this benchmark six times.

Four of those matches came at home, with Villa clearing this number three times. In terms of expected goals, Villa generated no fewer than 1.4 xG in those four matches.

Conversely, West Ham have surrendered at least two tallies in four straight league matches and five straight in all competitions.

Irrespective of opponent strength, West Ham haven’t kept an opponent under 1.4 xG away from home since Sept. 28 against Brentford.

As a result, back Villa to continue their strong offensive record on Sunday.
