The 2026 NCAA baseball championship comes down to one final series this weekend.
No. 5 seed North Carolina is looking to strike its name from the list of programs that have made the College World Series the most without winning a title.
BetMGM’s college baseball odds price the Tar Heels as a healthy favorite over unseeded Oklahoma. But the Sooners have been awfully dangerous in recent weeks, punctuated by their back-to-back wins over an otherwise dominant Georgia team.

North Carolina vs. Oklahoma: 2026 CWS Championship Series Preview
This is a series absolutely worthy of the national championship.
North Carolina plays excellent defense and situational baseball. The pitching staff is strong, including both starters and bullpen. This is a team without much weakness, and when it’s hitting like they did against West Virginia on Wednesday, the Heels are virtually unbeatable.
But Oklahoma – which finished the SEC season under .500! – has also looked virtually unbeatable over the past few weeks. The Sooners won a very tough road to reach the finals, winning on the road in both the Regionals (Atlanta) and Super Regionals (Lawrence), then ousting a meh Alabama team and the wire-to-wire SEC champion in Georgia.
Let’s put it this way: There’s a good case that the two best teams in college baseball this year were Georgia and Georgia Tech. Oklahoma knocked out both.
Oklahoma continues to beat teams that are “better” than the Sooners, and they’re doing it with a balanced approach. Their pitching has been great, not allowing more than four runs in a game since the start of Super Regionals. And they’re bashing the ball with ease, scoring at least eight runs in nearly every NCAA Tournament game so far. (The lone exception was the regional loss to Georgia Tech.)
North Carolina is the favorite, at least in part, because of its superior record and its status as a seeded team. And certainly, North Carolina will be the more popular pick to win among fans and bettors, as many people will cheer against the SEC baseball hegemony.
But having closely watched the NCAA playoffs this year, I just don’t see a lot of gap between these two teams. Oklahoma’s status as a +140 dog in Game 1 and a +145 series dog doesn’t really line up with the baseball it’s played on the field over the last few weeks.
If you asked me to simply pick a winner, I might give the slightest of edges to Carolina. But at cost, I vastly prefer the plus money with Oklahoma, who I think is being priced as a dog for purely cosmetic reasons.
Other sharps appear to agree with me, too, since the number is moving toward the Sooners.
