Playing on the road is an avoidable facet of life in college football. In the modern era, coaches often label them as business trips. Players often fly charter planes to faraway conference games.ย

Now, letโ€™s get to the part that bettors care about: How does the evolution of the road game affect the NCAA football odds market? Just how often are road teams winning in college football?

The answer might surprise you.ย

How Often Do Road Teams Win In College Football?

According to data from Bet Labs, road teams have an outright record of 5,375-8,004 since the start of the 2005 regular season. That means road teams win about 40.2% of the time.ย

Since 2018, when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned PASPA, road teams have won at 39.6%. Thatโ€™s roughly the same rate as the larger sample size.

Ironically, road teams have generally become more profitable in the aggregate over the last six years despite the small dip in their success rate.ย

That likely means the market has become more tilted toward home teams (and favorites) with the influx of millions of new public bettors.
