  • My Red Sox vs. Rangers prediction is Bostonโ€™s moneyline value (+105).

Two teams with high hopes for the 2025 season will face off on MLB’s Opening Day. The Texas Rangers will welcome the Boston Red Sox to town at 4:05 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 27, at Globe Life Field.

The Rangers missed the playoffs last year after winning the 2023 World Series, but they are poised for a bounce-back campaign. The Red Sox, after upgrading their roster in the offseason, are in a position to earn their first postseason appearance since 2021.

This could be a potential playoff preview, and the odds have moved in Bostonโ€™s favor since the market opened.

Hereโ€™s a look at the latest MLB odds and my Red Sox vs. Rangers prediction for Opening Day.

Red Sox vs. Rangers Opening Day Starting Pitchers

Starting pitchers havenโ€™t been announced for this matchup, but the Red Sox will likely give the ball to Garrett Crochet after trading for him in the offseason. The left-hander spun a 3.58 ERA in 32 starts for the Chicago White Sox last year and enters 2025 as an AL Cy Young contender.

Jacob deGrom has the highest ceiling on the Texas staff, but the Rangers might not use him in the opening series. Nathan Eovaldi (3.80 ERA in 2024) could make his second straight Opening Day start.

Red Sox vs. Rangers Prediction for Opening Day

Based on the updated MLB betting market, my Red Sox vs. Rangers prediction for Opening Day is to back Boston (+105) on the road.

The market has pushed the Red Soxโ€™s moneyline value from +120 to +105 for a reason. Crochet gives them an edge on the mound, particularly since deGrom isnโ€™t expected to get the start in the opener.

Crochet pitched six innings of one-run ball against the Detroit Tigers on Opening Day last year. He struck out eight batters, recording double-digit swinging strikes in each of his first five starts.

Iโ€™m excited to see how the Red Sox mold Crochet as their ace. Under pitching coach Andrew Bailey, the Red Sox stopped throwing bad fastballs last year. Their rotation went from a 4.38 ERA in 2023 (22nd in MLB) to a 3.81 ERA (7th) in 2024.

The Red Sox doing all that without an ace like Crochet is why they were my favorite World Series bet when they began with a 40/1 value. I expect them to start the year off with a win in Texas.
