MLB fans might have noticed that the strike zone box has changed on their TV broadcast. And there is a reason for that.
With the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) Challenge System set to debut in 2026, the league aims to ensure a fair and consistent process. Although a strike zone box may still appear on television broadcasts, it will no longer immediately label pitches as balls or strikes, requiring viewers to make their own judgment.
ESPN first introduced the K-Zone on Sunday Night Baseball in July 2001. It has been a part of the viewing experience for a baseball fan ever since, so it’s going to take some time to adjust to a new era.
