It’s easy to get excited about the 2026 strikeout leader race when looking at the top names in this MLB betting market.
Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal begins as the betting favorite after leading the majors in strikeouts during the 2024 campaign. Right-hander Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates is not far behind him, while Boston Red Sox lefty Garrett Crochet, the 2025 strikeout king, has the third-best odds this preseason.
All three pitchers are +500 or better.

Who Will Lead MLB in Strikeouts in 2026?
Based on the latest MLB betting lines, Tarik Skubal is a +350 favorite to lead the majors in strikeouts during the 2026 season. That gives him an implied probability of 22.22%.
Despite leading MLB in strikeouts in 2024, Skubal started with the third-best odds last spring at +650. He trailed Paul Skenes (+300) and Garrett Crochet (+550) in this market last preseason. Those are once again the top three contenders this year.
In 2025, Crochet finished with an MLB-best 255 strikeouts in 205 1/3 innings of work. Skubal ranked second, recording 241 whiffs across 195 1/3 frames. Skenes tied for fourth by fanning 216 batters across 187 2/3 innings.
In recent seasons, this has been a market where the favorites typically do well. Three of the previous four strikeouts leaders have been 9/1 or better in the preseason, with the lone exception being Skubal’s +3500 price tag in 2024.
MLB Strikeout Leader Predictions for 2026
- Bryan Woo, Seattle Mariners: +5000
It’s no surprise to see that MLB projections like Skubal’s chances of finishing with the most strikeouts in 2026.
OOPSY, my preferred projection system for pitchers, has Skubal leading the majors with 247 strikeouts this year. Crochet is projected for 240, while Skenes is third with 237. That feels right after diving into the betting odds.
After the top three, OOPSY has Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene finishing with 235 strikeouts and Dylan Cease recording 219 whiffs in his first season with the Toronto Blue Jays. Greene is +800 at BetMGM, while Cease is +1300.
Recent history suggests that the 2026 strikeout leader will likely come from that group of five hurlers. However, the +5000 value on Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo is worth pointing out.
Per OOPSY’s projections (available at FanGraphs), Woo is forecasted for 211 strikeouts in 200 innings this year. That’s the sixth-highest strikeout projection as of this writing, though his odds have him behind 17 different pitchers.
Woo flirted with 200 strikeouts last year, tossing 198 in 186 2/3 innings. He ranked 11th in strikeout rate (27.1%) and fifth in K-BB% (22.2%) as a 25-year-old pitcher last season.
Assuming he stays healthy enough to log more innings, Woo could be primed for a breakout season in 2026.
