I like the over on the Pacers’ win total (44.5) in what should be a bounce-back campaign.
Tyrese Haliburton suffered an Achilles injury in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals, which cost the Pacers a shot at the title and kept their star point guard out the following campaign. Without Haliburton, Indiana won 19 games last season.
Assuming Haliburton is completely healthy, the Pacers should return to being one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. But the market is pricing in some doubt, and I’m willing to take advantage of the discount. For a bigger upside play, I also like backing Rick Carlisle in the NBA Coach of the Year odds.
Before last year, the Pacers had cleared their preseason win total in three straight campaigns under Carlisle. They won 50 games to clear an over/under of 46.5 in 2024-25, ranking ninth in offensive rating.
That’s why Haliburton is so important to this team, as he can engineer a top-10 offensive system. But the Pacers made sure to help him out in his return by trading for center Ivica Zubac to hold things down on the defensive end. With Zubac on the floor, the Clippers’ defensive rating was 4.9 points better in 2024-25.
If the Pacers are more balanced, they could be set for a bounce-back season.
