Chargers vs. Vikings: NFL Week 8 Odds, Prediction

See the latest NFL Week 8 odds, picks and predictions for Chargers vs. Vikings on October 23 at SoFi Stadium.
  • The Chargers are a 3.5-point home favorite against the Vikings.
  • The Chargers have lost four of their last five games as favorites against NFC opponents.
  • My Chargers vs Vikings prediction is the Minnesota Vikings Spread (+2.5, -110).

To begin the Week 8 NFL action, the Chargers greet the Vikings in Los Angeles.ย

Jim Harbaughโ€™s team lost 38-24 as home favorites to the Colts on Sunday. It dropped Los Angeles to 4-3 on the season, good for third in the AFC West.ย

Minnesota fell 28-22 as home underdogs to the Eagles on Sunday. At 3-3, the Vikings sit last in the NFC North with the team yet to lose consecutive games this year.ย

Chargers vs. Vikings Prediction

Thursday, October 23

Ultimately, I’m electing to pass on this game.

Christian Darrisaw popped up on the injury report for Minnesota. Additionally, no clarity has emerged whether Joe Alt or Trey Pipkins are playing on Thursday.

Purely based on the line, it would be the Vikings or nothing here. That said, I don’t want to jump on a team playing a Chargers side desperate for a cover.

Sunday, October 19ย

Based on Minnesotaโ€™s misfortune in the red zone on Sunday and Los Angelesโ€™ injury issues, my Chargers vs Vikings prediction is the Vikings Spread (+2.5, -110).ย

Iโ€™m going to wait on this game to see if the Vikings reach +3. Either way, Iโ€™m interested to see how the market views this game, so Iโ€™ll wait for movement.ย

That said, itโ€™s the Vikings or nothing at the current number.ย

Minnesota suffered a narrow defeat against Philadelphia, but finished 1-for-6 in red zone trips. Plus, Philadelphia scored seven points via a pick-six.ย

If a defensive touchdown doesnโ€™t happen OR Minnesota flips one of those five red zone failures, the line here is likely much different.ย

On Thursday, they get a Chargers defense producing concerning results.ย

Since Week 5, LA ranks 24th or worse in both defensive EPA per play and success rate on plays excluding turnovers.ย

Offensively, a short week could prove too soon for key injury returnees. Both Joe Alt and Trey Pipkins missed Sundayโ€™s game, while the running backs room is decimated.ย

All of those factors lead me to consider the underdog on short rest, despite back-to-back home games for the Chargers.ย

However, Iโ€™ll wait for a better number before making a final prediction on Thursdayโ€™s contest.ย
