Based on the Patriots’ offensive struggles in the Super Bowl and success limiting Jaxon Smith-Njigba, my Seahawks vs Patriots prediction is the Total Under 44.5 Points (-110).

A logical place to start here is asking what’s changed since the Super Bowl. In February, Seattle closed as a five-point favorite with the total set at 45.5 points.

Dropping Seattle from -5 on a neutral to -3.5 at home feels slightly overactive to the offseason. Offensive questions are fair after losing Kenneth Walker, but I remain confident in the defense.

New England failed to enter the Seattle red zone until fourth-quarter garbage time. The offensive line, still an average-at-best unit, allowed six sacks to Seattle’s defense.

Only Boye Mafe and Riq Woolen departed the defense from that Super Bowl unit. Plus, Seattle still has Devon Witherspoon to match New England’s A.J. Brown acquisition this Summer.

Chief amongst whether New England has any success in Seattle is how the offensive line holds up.

Even if you’re skeptical of Seattle’s edges sans Mafe, the defensive tackles own a sizable advantage over New England’s interior.

What I expect to change the most about the Super Bowl is Seattle’s offensive production.

The unit relied on Kenneth Walker III to dominate New England on the ground. Walker has since departed for the Chiefs, leaving behind a lackluster Seahawks running back room.

Zach Charbonnet’s status remains unknown for Week 1. While the team expressed optimism about a return from his torn ACL, it still looks like a heavy dose of rookie Jadarian Price.

Virtually all of Seattle’s success came on the ground against New England. Sam Darnold completed only 19-of-38 passes for just over 200 yards.

NFL Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught only four passes off 10 targets for 27 yards.

Seattle’s 29 points look good on paper, but it’s a bit misleading. The offense scored a touchdown after recovering a fumble in plus territory and the defense added a pick-six.

Despite those factors, the total has only dropped a point from the Super Bowl. Accordingly, I predict bettors see another lower-scoring contest between two familiar opponents.
