Bills vs Vikings Prediction

Based on Buffalo’s ability to run the ball and the Vikings’ inconsistent run-stopping metrics on defense, my Vikings vs Bills prediction is the Buffalo Bills Spread (-3, -102).

I’m going to continue to hammer the drum that Minnesota’s defense is overmatched in this game. It’s also my philosophy that when two good teams play, fade the weakest unit.

Buffalo’s defense remains a potential liability and is nowhere near as good as Sunday’s performance against Baltimore’s third-string quarterback.

But the case for optimism is that Buffalo’s poor performances this season have come against good offenses. Meanwhile, the Vikings defense has largely achieved its rating against bad units.

Still, previous games showed offenses can run the ball on Minnesota. Chicago, Miami, Indianapolis and Detroit all ran the ball effectively to nullify Brian Flores’ blitzing tendencies.

Now Flores is charged with limiting an explosive Bills rushing attack. Excluding Week 8 against Baltimore, the Bills offense leads the NFL in rush offense DVOA (16.1%).

It qualifies as the hardest opponent for Minnesota’s defense all season by rush offense DVOA. On Sunday, the unit faced a 14th-ranked Lions rushing attack that notched 230 rushing yards.

Minnesota’s defense, in its last two games, allowed 4.7 and 5.9 yards per attempt. Even Miami reached 6.7 yards per rush against the Vikings!

Both teams are lucky to have as many wins as they do. But I trust the Bills offense more in the perceived strength-on-strength matchup.
