For hockey fans, the Stanley Cup Final are a double-edged sword.

On one end, a new team will be crowned the champion, and the Cup will be handed off. On the other hand, there’s the existential dread of a long summer and fall without NHL hockey and an even longer wait for playoff hockey. With the series well underway, those feelings are haunting hockey fans everywhere.

Don’t get too bummed out, though, we’ve still got an exciting Cup Finals series to go.

Here’s a look at the odds for who’ll win the 2025-26 Stanley Cup as of June 5.

Who’s Favored to Win the Stanley Cup?

Carolina Hurricanes (-145)

As regulation came to a close on Thursday night’s Game 2, it seemed like the Golden Knights had grabbed the “team of destiny” belt from the Hurricanes.

If Carolina went down 0-2, especially after two home games, they’d have an incredibly tough time winning the series.

The Knights had earlier in the game squandered a 2-0 lead. In the third period, the Hurricanes came back with goals from Logan Stankoven, Mark Jankowski, and Jordan Staal. Then, the Mark Stone equalizer came in from Vegas, and their resilience looked like it would be the story of the first two games.

Then, in overtime, Seth Jarvis, with his friends from Winnipeg looking in, changed all that with a goal that snuck past the Knights’ goalie Carter Hart.

One goal can change a lot: expectations and odds. Carolina is now a slight -145 as the series heads back to Sin City tied at one game apiece.

Through four rounds of playoff action, the Hurricanes have only two losses. In their first two series, they swept the Senators, then the Flyers, before defeating the Canadiens in five games.

Carolina finished the season with the league’s second-highest points total, with 113 compared to Colorado’s 121. Carolina had a 53-22-7 record during the regular season, locking down the one-seed in the Eastern Conference.

This is the Hurricanes’ first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 2006, which was the franchise’s lone championship.
