Islam Makhachev is coming off his first successful title defense of the UFC Lightweight Title against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in a champion versus champion super fight as they headlined the main event of UFC 284 in Perth, Australia. The Dagestani unanimously beat Volkanovski in a classic back-and-forth match.

The performance that Makhachev displayed in the bout with Volkanovski has further cemented his place in online sports betting, particularly in UFC odds. When will Makhachev return inside the Octagon? And who will he be facing next?

When Is Islam Makhachev’s Next Fight?

Islam Makhachev’s likely next opponent will be the winner between Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush, as both lightweight contenders go head-to-head in 2023. Aside from Oliveira and Dariush, other 155-pound contenders that can challenge Makhachev are Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.

The date and venue for Makhachev’s return are still to be determined, as he might need a few months to recover from his fight with Volkanovski.
